Canada Place announces special Canada Day broadcast celebration
the 34th annual event will broadcast province-wide on Global BC
Vancouver, B.C.: Canada Place today announced the details of its virtual Canada Day celebration, #CanadaTogether: Canada Day at Canada Place. On July 1st at 11:00 a.m., the event will broadcast province-wide on Global BC. The one-hour broadcast includes a lineup of entertainment and activities that will give viewers a glimpse into the very best elements of the annual event.
Featured entertainment for Canada’s 154th birthday party includes performances by 54•40, Delhi 2 Dublin, and Spakwus Slolem (translated, “Eagle Song Dancers”). The celebrations will also include a mascot dance-off featuring favourite mascots from around the Lower Mainland, a demonstration of how to make the iconic Canadian Caesar cocktail, a BBQ cooking segment to create the Great Canadian Burger by Darrell Jones, president of Save-On-Foods, and an inspiring story an immigrant family that recently became Canadian citizens. The broadcast will be hosted by Global News Hour at 6 anchors Chris Gailus and Sophie Lui, and co-hosted by CFOX’s Karen Khunkhun.
“Canada Day at Canada Place is a very special event because it’s a chance for all of us to come together (if only virtually right now) to celebrate everything that makes our nation such a special place to call home,” says Tom Corsie, president of Canada Place Corporation and vice president, real estate at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. “Every year, we look forward to hosting this event for community members, many of whom include this as one of their annual events. We are so proud to bring everyone this very special virtual celebration.”
Canada Day at Canada Place has been hosted annually for 34 years, and is the largest Canada Day celebration in the country, outside our nation’s capital. Traditionally, the in-person event welcomes more than 250,000 guests during the daytime, and more than 400,000 viewers of the evening’s fireworks display. With ongoing guidelines around physical distancing and public gatherings, the decision was made earlier this year to cancel the in-person Canada Day at Canada Place celebration.
