‘Tis the Season to Go Mobile with the Woodward’s Windows Display
New mobile app from Christmas at Canada Place brings the fun of this
Vancouver tradition to the palm of your hand
Vancouver, BC, December 1, 2011, – Christmas planning and festive fun have officially begun with the 24th annual Christmas at Canada Place. Once again Canada Place is hosting Vancouver’s most treasured tradition, the Woodward’s Windows, from December 1, 2011 to January 4, 2012. ‘Tis the season to go mobile! Canada Place Corporation has created a new free mobile app available on iPhone and Android devices to add to the experience and make it an interactive holiday visit to each amazing display.
Back by popular demand, the classic Woodward’s Windows displays will be set-up at locations around the downtown core with four spectacular windows located at the flagship location along the West Promenade at Canada Place.
“We love sharing the experience of the Christmas season with everyone, and the Woodward’s Windows are a long-standing tradition for our community,” said Mike Shardlow, President & CEO, Canada Place Corporation. “The addition of the Christmas at Canada Place mobile app allows us to create new and unique experiences for our visitors as well as help raise awareness and donations for our charity partner, the Strathcona Community Centre’s Food Security for Children Program.”
Woodward’s Windows Mobile Application
The new Christmas edition of the free Canada Place mobile app is available for download for iPhone/iPad/iPod and Android devices at canadaplace.ca/christmas. Visitors are encouraged to “check-in” on their mobile devices and a secret ornament will be uncovered at each of the displays. Once all virtual ornaments have been collected, visitors can enter to win the ultimate Christmas gift, a $2,000 shopping spree at London Drugs.
For visitors who prefer a printed version, the Christmas at Canada Place brochure with the self-guided map and contest entry form is also available from December 1 to January 4 at any downtown Starbucks, window display locations or online.
Discover Woodward’s Windows on a Guided Tour
Check out all the windows in one day or better yet catch a few at a time throughout the month of December. The self-guided tour is FREE for everyone and includes the following displays:
• Canada Place: 999 Canada Place (on the West Promenade)
• Woodward's London Drugs: Hastings & Abbott
• Bentall One: Burrard & Pender
• Bentall Three: Burrard & Dunsmuir
• Bentall Four: Dunsmuir & Thurlow
• Vancouver Christmas Market: Cambie & Georgia *closes December 24
The Woodward’s Windows continue to be a treasured part of Vancouver’s history. Handcrafted over half a century ago, each carefully restored and maintained window display features classic holiday scenes with animated characters and elaborate detail. Canada Place purchased the displays in 1993 following the closure of the Woodward’s Department Store and incorporated them into the Christmas magic at Canada Place for the community to enjoy.
Christmas at Canada Place
Events also include the sold-out Breakfast with Santa, December 17 and 18. The fun-filled Breakfasts will feature performances by Bobs and LoLo, Magician Ray Medway and ShowStoppers. This year Christmas at Canada Place is also pleased to provide a Christmas contest where every $2 donation to the Strathcona Community Centre’s Food Security for Children Program will enter guests to win an all-inclusive holiday for two to Mexico from Transat Holidays Nolitours and Azul Fives. This important program aims to prevent hunger and malnutrition of children on the Downtown Eastside. There will be opportunities to donate and enter to win on select days at Canada Place, at Breakfast with Santa, or online at canadaplace.ca/christmas. Check the website for full event details.
