The largest birthday party outside of Ottawa celebrates with 13 hours of family fun
July 2, 2011 – Vancouver, BC – Canada Day at Canada Place, presented by Coast Capital Savings, was a resounding success as the largest event outside of Ottawa celebrated our nation with a waterfront party, parade and fireworks.
Canada Day at Canada Place took over the streets, Canada Place, Jack Poole Plaza, and Harbour Green Park as the nation came together to cheer, sing, dance and play on our country’s 144th birthday. The waterfront party was followed by the ever-popular 3rd annual Canada Day Parade and spectacular two-barge Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show.
An estimated 200,000 people celebrated this year at Canada Place. The exceptional daytime event included over 30 bands on 5 stages, the debut of William Meire’s inspiring Face of Canada art exhibition, acrobatic performances, the annual Citizenship Ceremony hosted by Global BC’s Chris Gailus, a celebration of the Canadian Forces, food from across the nation and much more.
"Canada Day at Canada Place is our marquee event and we’re honoured to bring people together to celebrate Canada,” said Robyn McVicker, Director, Communications & Public Affairs, Canada Place Corporation. "From morning until night the community was decked out in red and white, waving their flags and showing true Canadian pride. We would like to thank our partners and sponsors, including the Department of Canadian Heritage, Government of Canada and Coast Capital Savings for their tremendous support.”
Following Canada Day at Canada Place in Vancouver, the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Society proudly presented the Canada Day Parade where 120,000 people lined the city streets to cheer on the lively entries. To cap off the evening, the Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show lit up the sky with a two-barge display and music simulcast by Shore 104.3 FM.
Canada Place also celebrated across the country in Ottawa where Canada Place’s “Canadian Spirit Booth” took part in Canada Day in the Capital.
