200 Years in the Making... Open June 25
The 200th anniversary of one of the major milestones on Canada’s road to becoming an independent country is commemorated with the War of 1812 Experience at Canada Place. This exciting free public exhibit has been made possible by the Department of Canadian Heritage who are supporting this initiative through their 1812 Commemoration Fund and providing $950,000 to help develop the new project.
The War of 1812 Experience at Canada Place is located on The Canadian Trail, Canada Place’s famed Promenade. Your War of 1812 Experience begins with interactive components highlighting the genesis of the War and the spectacular battles over water. The experience moves into an interior space that features a black box immersive attraction takes you right to the battlefields of 1812 and moves you through to an interpretive salon.
Staff in period costumes and interactive kiosks provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the details of the war and its legacy. The War of 1812 Experience at Canada Place is one of scores of activities taking place across the country this year to mark the 200th anniversary of the conflict including a cornerstone exhibit at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
TThe official media launch is Monday morning and the public is invited to be some of the first to discover the War of 1812 Experience starting at noon.
