Community Events

A natural gathering place for community celebration and social interaction Canada Place is the perfect place for free community events. Our goal is to host over 100 event days a year.

Canada Place is a gathering place, bringing people together in celebration, to connect with our country with one another. Since our inception in 1986 during the World’s Fair, Expo 86, Canada Place welcomes over 3 million people annually. We take great pride in our role as a Canadian icon and through our annual community events such as Canada Day, the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show, Remembrance Day and Christmas at Canada Place, we have the opportunity to showcase and share our national pride with you.

Some of our past events include:

  • TD Canada Trust International Jazz Festival
  • National Aboriginal Awareness Celebration
  • Vancouver Canucks Playoffs on Canada's Storyboard
  • National Flag of Canada Day
  • Veterans' Week and Remembrance Day
  • Grey Cup Festival

Remembrance Day 2012

From November 1 - 10, we will be facilitating a poppy-by-donation box out of the Welcome Centre.

On November 11, in partnership with the Canadian War Museum, we will be broadcasting a live webcast of Memorial Hall on Canada’s Storyboard at 8am PST.

Memorial Hall is a place of quiet remembrance and reflection tucked away within the Museum’s Lobby. The minimalist, dimly lit space, reached through a narrow, sloping corridor, holds a calm pool of water and a lone artifact: the headstone from the grave of Canada’s Unknown Soldier. In 2000, Canada brought home one of its unknown soldiers and buried him at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. It is his grave marker that rests in Memorial Hall. Memorial Hall is carefully situated to line up with the intersection of two axes that form the basis of the Museum's orientation. The east-west axis extends to the Peace Tower, while the north-south axis parallels the path of the sun across the building on November 11 (Remembrance Day).
Don’t miss ...
• The headstone of the Unknown Soldier, carved with a maple leaf, a cross and the words “Known Unto God.” It hangs on the wall, weathered and still showing the stains of the earth where it once was partially buried in the ground
• The small window high in the wall, precisely positioned so that the sun illuminates the headstone of the Unknown Soldier every year on November 11 at 11am
• The grid pattern that graces Memorial Hall’s interior and exterior walls. The design is proportioned after First World War Canadian gravestones — a sombre reminder of the more than 60,000 Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice in that war

Following the live webcast, at 10:30am PST on November 11 Canada Place will host a live broadcast on Canada's 25ft LED Storyboard of Global BC's live broadcast of the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Victory Square.
